- Miroslaw Ciszek is charged with aggravated DUI causing a fatal accident, leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and other DUI-related offenses.
- Victim: Sarah Milcarek, 25, of New Lenox, was struck and killed while crossing Irving Park Road in Lakeview.
- The crash: Prosecutors say Ciszek struck her at high speed on the 1400 block of Irving Park Road, throwing her into the air and through his rear windshield.
- He allegedly kept driving, then crashed into another vehicle stopped at a red light on Ashland Avenue before fleeing on foot. Police arrested him hours later.
- Prosecutors argued he's a danger to public safety: "The blood alcohol level was at such an extent that seven hours after the incident he was still over the legal limit."
- Cook County Judge D'Anthony Thedford ordered electronic monitoring rather than pretrial detention — instructing Ciszek "not to drink excessively."
- Defense: The Public Defender's Office noted Ciszek has no major prior arrests or convictions, and argued pretrial detention costs defendants jobs and housing.
- Milcarek's funeral is scheduled for Saturday in New Lenox.
