Roy Pughsley, 53, is facing burglary and felony theft charges after Chicago police say he broke into the Loop's flagship Macy's store overnight, helped himself to food from the store's restaurant, tried on clothing, and walked out with stolen merchandise around 3:25 a.m. Pughsley was allegedly identified by Macy's employees who recognized him from surveillance footage outside the store days later, leading to his arrest; he's still serving probation from a 2022 case in which he stabbed a homeless man with a box cutter at a River North Walgreens, a charge that was reduced from attempted murder as part of a plea deal, and he's been arrested at least eight more times since then. He missed his first court appearance on the Macy's case earlier this month, prompting an arrest warrant, and is currently being held in Cook County Jail.
